School Principal Doug Jacobs (l) and Rep. Mike Noel (r)..

History

While working on a Ph.D. at Utah State University in 1975, Mike took a break to visit family in Kanab and ended up buying the old Bowman's Mercantile Store which he converted into "The Kaibab Fountain Restaurant". Mike ran the business for 5 years shutting it down in winter and taking a temporary job with the BLM, which later turned into a permanent position.

Mike's BLM career (all in Kanab) involved road, and utility rights of ways, commercial permitting, NEPA analysis including the Andalex Coal Mine, land exchanges and sales. In 1980 Mike traded the restaurant property for a down payment on a farm where he has worked for 26 years building a viable 200 head cow/calf and haying operation. In 1997, Mike's frustration with the Babbitt/Clinton administration and their attacks on rural southern Utah ended in his resignation from the agency and the start of a private consulting/management firm.

Today his main contract is with the Kane County Water Conservancy District where he serves as the managing Executive Director and has been the driving force behind the construction of numerous multi-million dollar culinary water systems in Johnson Canyon and Cedar Mountain, a hydro plant in Orderville which generates almost 1 million KW of renewable energy each year, and numerous other water development projects in Kane County.

In 1999, Mike organized "People for the USA" chapters in Kane-Garfield and Coconino County Az. to help counter the formidable political alliance between Big Government, Wealthy Foundations, and Big Environmental Organizations. Mike believes that this green alliance and their unrelenting assault on rural communities is a serious threat to the livelihood of farmers, ranchers, loggers, small businesses, private property owners and the overall economic stability of rural America. Mike is currently a member and the past Vice President of the Color Country Rural Alliance, a wise land use organization affiliated with PFUSA that is fighting to protect grazing rights, access and multiple use of our public lands.

signs a bill into law in Kanab.

Representative Noel has continued his work on public land issues as the District #73 State Representative. He introduced House Bill 264 which establishes considerations for recognition of state and local interests in the federal land use management process. The legislation also establishes planning policies related to: managing for the sustainability and health of the renewable resources found on public lands such as water, timber, forage, recreation, and wildlife.

Representative Noel continues to fight for states rights and individual rights involving federal lands issues such as RS2477 road access and grazing buy-out schemes instigated by environmental organizations. In summary, Representative Noel has taken the trust placed in him by your vote and his election to office and used it to protect your rights as a citizen of this state and nation. He is fighting to protect grazing rights, access and multiple use of our public lands.
